Failure, another stepping
stone.
In all truisms, if one has never
failed, it could only mean one has never tried something new.
I would rather try and fail, than
later, when I no longer can, wish I did.
The topic of discourse is;
FAILURE ANOTHER STEPPING STONE
I pray my ideas make sense to you and
strikes an impact.
what is Failure?
what is Failure?
The word failure is perhaps one of
the first words we understood the meaning through our parents.
The following statements resonates,
“Study well, so you don't fail.”
“If you fail, you will be punished”.
MY CHILD, YOU SHALL NOT FAIL (in our
mother's voice).
In kick-starting the conversation, I will like to dwell more on what failure
is not. But before we proceed, lets have few definition of failure.
Few definition of failure
I believe our individual
understanding of the word 'FAILURE' is sine-qua-non to how we handle FAILURE.
· Failure is the foundation on which the house of success is built'
· Failure means getting a lesser result than your expectations.....
· Falling short of expectations.
· Failure only point out the error in our method
· Failure means "Lured into the light"
I appreciate these definitions, I
agree with every of them. Based on the above definitions, is there anybody here
that has never failed at something? If you have never failed, please signify.
I hope its safe for me to conclude
that we have all failed at one point or the other. Can I?
If you have failed, does that make you a failure?
THE FACT THAT YOU FAILED DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAILURE.
Let us demystify failure What is failure not?
(Warning: this statements below are
only accepted by great men with unquenchable determination).
1. Failure is not an end point, except you make it.
2. You are not a failure, until you accept it.
3. Failure is not what makes you a mediocre, not trying again is.
It is an established fact, that there
is a relationship between success and failure. But the differences in agreement
are that some accept failure to be an opposite of success. While, others see it
as a foundation on which success is built.
FAILURE VS SUCCESS
Failure is
not an enemy of success, it is a friend of success. - To be 'greatly'
successful, you must make failure a friend. Anything you fail at, you can still
succeed at.
Great men are
men that know how to manage failures. I believe one of the that things we
should add to our academic curriculum is failure management.
(That's why HOPE INSTITUTE is recommended for people
that want to soar through lifes challenges and succeed).
The conventional system make you
detest failure forgetting te fact that no matter how meticulous we are, we will
experience failure at different states
in our lifes. The myth associated with failure is due to the fact that people
don't understand the difference between the following;
· PURPOSE/PROCESS
· VISION/MISSION
· GOAL/PLAN
Some constraints won't allow us
expound on the above. The statements below will you grasp my point.
· The fact that a particular PROCESS
failed, does not make the PURPOSE fail.
· The fact that a MISSION failed, does
not make the VISION fail.
· The fact that the PLAN failed, does
not make the GOAL failed.
When you have
a Goal you break your goal into actionable plan. But the mistake we mostly make
is that we confuse the goal for the plans. We forget that plans can fail.
I've been talking like a 'failure' ambassador.Am I encouraging failure?
(Stay calm, the response to that shall review itself as we proceed).
FAILURE CAN BE BOTH A BLESSING AND A CURSE.
This means “failure can work for you or against
you”. To erase the
ambiguousness of the above statement, let me say FAILURE IS A TOOL OF
PERFORMANCE. As a tool, I'll like to link failure to a spanner.(Both ends of
the spanner functional)
A spanner is a tool that is used
to loosen/tighten nuts. Most times, the
two ends of the spanner are usable.
In relating a spanner
to 'failure'
One end of the spanner(failure)
unlocks. The other end locks(terminates). At this point, I'll like to define the
word failure.
Permit me to peep into a dictionary.
From my mobile dictionary, I found
two meaning.
· Failure is a state of not meeting a
desired objective.
· Termination of the ability of an
object/person to perform a particular function.
Permit me to link each of these
definitions to each end of the spanner.
This is what I mean-By these definitions,
one end of the spanner is a state while the other end terminates.
When you view
failure from the end where it is a state, failure works for you.
(A state is transient, it is not a destination.)
If you view failure from the end where
it terminates, it works against you. Termination means, you accept it as the end.
Therefore failure can be both a blessing or a curse (depending on your
choice).I'll like us to study the life's of the following people,
Helen Keller
Abraham Lincoln
Olakunle Soriyan
Steve Harris.
Oprah Winfrey.
Please we can also suggest other
people whose life highlights transforming failure into success. Since we have
been able to establish that failure can be both a blessing and a curse.
How can failure
be a blessing?
By making it a stepping stone To make failure
a stepping stone, You must get the following right. recently, who locked at the
following topics;
Conquering fear
Beliefs system
Value of consistency
These are foundational concepts that
help you make failure a stepping stone.
BELIEF SYSTEM; How you perceive failure matters. You
must reconfigure your mindset to the illumination that failure is a tool that
you can use to unlock success. If you understand the road that leads to
failure, the road that leads to success will not be strange to you.
CONQUER FEAR; The fear of failure is a guarantee of failure. Take risk. Start. Put
that idea to action. The worse that can happen is you fail. If you fail early,
you make amends early them ultimately, you succeed early. So please, let go of
fear and just start. If you fail, START
AGAIN.
CONSISTENCY; Don't stop, keep at it.
If you fail, continue. Always
remember, FAILURE IS NEVER A DESTINATION.
I can't expound on the above, I
strongly recommend that we consult the previous teachings on those topic. One major
point I'll like to stress is RESPONSIBILITY;
Accept Responsibility for Your Failure That way , you know if you make
yourself fail, Only you can make yourself Succeed.
“Dont be like the child
that says I WISH MY PARENTS ARE RICH SO THEY CAN BUY ME A CAR Be like the child
that says I MUST BE RICH SO I CAN BUY A CAR FOR MY PARENTS.”
YOU ARE NOT CREATED TO FAIL,THE
POTENTIALS IN YOU ARE TOO POTENT FOR YOU
TO FAIL.THEREFORE IF YOU FAIL IT IS A MISTAKE.
What you call MISTAKE, I call MISS-TAKES.
Failure is
just a miss-take.
What happens when you miss-take? YOU
TAKE AGAIN.
CONCLUSIVELY, IF YOU FAIL, YOU
CREATED IT. BUT THE FAILURE YOU CREATED IS LIFELESS. NEVER YOU DO THE MISTAKE
OF BREATHING LIFE TO FAILURE BY ACCEPTING IT. IF YOU FALL, RISE AND CONTINUE
RUNNING.
DEFINATELY, YOU'LL WIN - ONLY IF YOU DON'T STOP!
