                                  GOAL SETTING

The topic for today is goal setting Truth be Said, we all have dreams and aspirations. The idea of having a yearly resolution even if we won't be faithful to it is not strange!

The question really is how do we set a workable goal

Before I continue, am sure there people who set New Year goals here?  Thank God I had goals too,

So, another question, please answer individually too, how many of those goals did you plan to achieve by this time of the year? And how many have you really achieved??

On a scale of 1-10, just give me a number that you would give yourself in achieving your goal, oya!  At least, today is long enough!

First, we really need to know what a goal is.

A goal is *The end towards which efforts are directed! That specific reason you are doing something, is a goal. For instance, the reason student study is to pass exam, passing an exam is a goal.

One's goal could be long term(what you want to achieve in life, in a year's time,) or short term(what you want to achieve tomorrow, next week, next month.)Goals can also be tangible(e.g I want to buy a car) or intangible(I want to learn an online course and add to my knowledge). All of these are a bit of digressions, our subject of discussion for today is goal setting, let's not forget.

The reason we mostly do not achieve our goals is because we do not set them right! Please let's not forget that.

You know Setting goals help us to have a direction, but.  it's one thing to set a goal, it's another to stay true to it.

APPROACH TO SETTING A GOAL AND STAYING TRUE

First things first

·      WRITE YOUR GOALS DOWN

I know you must have heard this like one million times already, but trust me, there are no two ways about it, write it down. But, when writing your goals down, be specific!

Don't just write I want to be rich! Write Something like I want to become a millionaire in my entrepreneur business in three months’ time is more like it

·      WRITE THE “HOW”

After writing your goals down specifically, the next thing to do is to write the HOW

How do you plan to achieve that goal?.

Yes, you want to become a millionaire in three months... How do you plan to be?? What are the things you need to do to achieve that goal?.

Write them down too, step by step!

For example - I want to learn an online course on problem solving.-How???

1. sign up on Coursera(a kind of online  platform where online courses are taught.

2. search for and register a course on problem solving

3. Spend three hours daily reading on problem solving on coursera...

That's how to write a How

After writing your goals, write how you plan to achieve them, it's importanter!!!

·      TIME FRAME

Now, the next thing to put in place is TIME FRAME

After you must have written your specific goal and how you plan to achieve it, set a deadline

Some persons would say:  my goal is to develop myself mentally and read books this year

Nice, very nice.

But, know the book you want to read per time, how you want to read it (you can draw a timetable)

Set a deadline for when you must finish one book and when you will start another!!!

Now let me digress a little bit please, don't have too many goals at the same time. Please!!! It becomes cumbersome and frustrating

If your goal is to start an NGO or an organization, take one step at a time, don't start up 5 NGOs together.

Setting deadlines for our goals are as important as making the goals themselves. Or else ,by January 31, we will just see that paper we wrote all our goals in under the bed when cleaning up and discover we didn't even cover 45%*

·      PRIORITIZE ALL ACTIVITIES THAT WILL MOVE YOU TO FULFILLING YOUR GOALS OVER EVERY OTHER THING

Now, to the last segment I will be touching After you have set your goals, written how you tend to achieve it and when you plan to achieve it, Prioritize all activities that will move you to  fulfilling your goals over every other thing.

You plan to learn how to drive a car and you will be watching Agent of shield when it's time for driving lessons, that's bad

Place achieving your goals first, and let every other activity follow!

Do things daily that makes you closer to achieving your goals

Don't just write it in paper and go to bed, let your daily activities portray there's a goal you are aiming to reach

Consciously And intentionally You have come this far, congratulations!!!

Now, make your goals handy!! Like for me, I make them my phone's screen saver so I can always see it every time

When your goal is handy and you can easily see it, it gives you a sense of responsibility!

Finally! Subject your goals to God! Scriptures said the thoughts He has towards us are of peace and not of evil to give us an expected end

Ask God for His plans for you and set your goals in line with the instructions you have received!

Having a goal is good, setting a goal rightly is better.

EXPLORING YOUR MIND

Tonight we'll discuss the topic “ Exploring your Mind” . A geologist, an artist, and a farmer might look at a rocky mountain, but their eyes would see three different things. Now, put yourself into one of those personalities and tell me what you see out of the rocky mountain? The geologist would be thrilled and be curious to know the history of their formation. The artist would be moved by colors and the grandeur of the magnificent silhouette. The farmer might grumble, "I can't grow any crop up there!" . But the farmer forgot that, it's a great opportunity for him to sharpen his blunt tools. “You can't explore if you don't have anything in Mind” When you hear the term Mind, what does it mean to you? What's the meaning of the word Mind ? Sir William Hamilton defined the mind as   ;                             ...
